Prison educators play a vital role in transforming lives, yet their experiences and wellbeing often go unrecognised.

That’s why Education Support, commissioned by the University and College Union (UCU), is conducting crucial research to better understand the workplace challenges and mental health experiences of prison educators in the UK.

We want to hear from you! By taking part in our research, you can help highlight the realities of working in prison education and ensure your voice is heard.

How you can get involved

1. Survey

Complete our anonymous survey to help us understand your workplace experiences, health, and wellbeing.

Your insights will contribute to vital research aimed at improving conditions for prison educators. Please complete the survey by 4 April. It will take you around 15 minutes.

2. Focus groups

Join one of our four focus groups in April 2025 to share your experiences in more depth.

  • Two groups will be for prison educators from Black, Asian, or other minority backgrounds
  • Two groups will be for mixed groups

All participants will receive a £30 voucher as a thank you for your time.

To express your interest, simply complete the survey above. If you’re unable to complete the survey but wish to express an interest in taking part in the focus groups, please sign up

3. Additional research for opportunity for Black prison educators
